Shelby Lee Adams Lecture

So last night I went to see Shelby Lee Adams lecture and it was really cool.
He showed some new pictures that he shot from the last time that he has visited the families that he had become close with.

He also gave updates on some of his old subjects and had follow up photos. He also had said that he was very excited to shoot photos of fourth generation Appalachians. He had photos of the new generation of Appalachia and went briefly in to the unfortunate new trend of people making meth labs in the old abandoned coal mines.

I think that his lecture helped me understand more in depth about building relationships to gain trust with people. I think the best advise he gave is to be up front with people and to tell them right away about being a photographer and how you need to make them feel comfortable, and always give them a print.

He also let us know that he does not pay any of the people in the photos that he takes but that he always gives back to them.
